Suddenly in Charge - Managing Up, Managing Down, Succeeding All Around
Author - Roberta Chinsky Matuson
As a new manager, I constantly experimented to improve my leadership and management skills. This book gave me several insights to help me along my leadership journey. I'll list out 3 insights below:
- One of the most important skills you need to learn, managing your boss
- You must adjust to those that report to you, not the other way around
- Your team is a huge asset, interview as many applicants as it takes to find the right one
Suddenly in charge will teach you the following: Managing you boss, how to manage your direct reports, how to navigate corporate politics, how to deal with bad bosses, and how to recognize if you're about to be fired.
I recommend this book for anyone that wants to become a manager or people that are adapting / learning to manage. It's not too long @ approximately 250 pages. Give it a read and let me know what you think?
